At Goldfinch Hill, we are committed to maintaining a healthy and safe environment for our visitors, animals, and staff. We strongly believe that the use of harsh chemical insecticides, pesticides, and herbicides is unnecessary and poses health risks.
Instead, we adopt natural and sustainable methods for pest and weed control. For pest management, we use techniques such as introducing beneficial insects, rotating crops to disrupt pest cycles, and employing physical barriers like nets and row covers. For weed control, we use wood chip mulching, Bio360 mulch, hand weeding, and cover cropping to suppress weed growth.
Along side our specialty cut flowers, we have planted (and will continue to plant more) hundreds of native pollinator friendly plants. These act to attract beneficial insects and build up their populations so that they can keep the aggressive species in check.
While we prioritize these eco-friendly practices, we have chosen not to pursue organic certification and the associated costs and regulations. We invite you to visit our farm stand for fresh cut bouquets and participate in our on-farm experiences like You Pick flower days, workshops, or even book a private event, all while enjoying the peace of mind that our commitment to natural methods provides.
